BtcTurk’s global event organised for the 12th anniversary of the Bitcoin whitepaper received huge interest. The event — broadcast on BtcTurk’s Twitter, YouTube and Facebook accounts — saw around 1.1 million people tune in
BtcTurk, Turkey’s first Bitcoin and cryptocurrency exchange and fourth to launch worldwide, organised a global event for the 12th anniversary of Bitcoin Whitepaper, which introduced Bitcoin for the first time.
Among the speakers were Adam Back, CEO of Blockstream; Kerem Tibuk, founder of BtcTurk; Özgür Güneri, CEO of BtcTurk; Meltem Demirörs, Chief Strategy Officer of CoinShares; and Şant Manukyan, International Markets Director at IS Investment. It was watched live by 1.1 million people.
BtcTurk’s event was livestreamed on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube, and covered the history of money, the road to the Bitcoin Whitepaper and why we think institutions are buying Bitcoin, approaching these questions from a financial angle.
Bitcoin came into existence on 31st October 2008 after a whitepaper titled “Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System”, attributed to Satoshi Nakamoto, was posted on a group called the “Cryptography Mailing Group”. Özgür Güneri, CEO of BtcTurk, said: “We have seen that Bitcoin helps us get through financial and social fluctuations more strongly. I believe people will tilt towards such assets more when cash loses power in the next period. Bitcoin comes across as a solid solution and option for protecting our wealth in the future. Bitcoin derives great power from the fact that it cannot be controlled, censored, or suffer from changing money policies. This way, we offer people an impeccable and brilliant financial instrument with a decentralised structure that eliminates counterparty risk. Today, Bitcoin has become an investment for average people who want to protect themselves from financial and social instability. People will be provided with great convenience as assets can be protected with the latest technology in line with the principles of privacy and security. We are proud to be a medium for this as a global player operating across seven continents in the cryptocurrency world.”
Adam Back, CEO of Blockstream and one of the few individuals to be cited in the paper, commented:
“When people understand that fiduciary money loses value against Bitcoin, more and more people will prefer Bitcoin.” Kerem Tibuk, founder of BtcTurk, described Bitcoin as a very powerful financial instrument. He emphasised the importance of establishing transparency in Blockchain by securing exchangeability.
Meltem Demirörs, Chief Strategy Officer of CoinShares, remarked: “I am very excited to see the great interest of Turkish people in Bitcoin and the cryptocurrency market.” She added: “Today, we see people from every walk of life with different educational and political backgrounds and opinions getting interested in Bitcoin. This is a great social movement, a social transformation. All of these different people have been able to find common ground. To put it simply: The Bitcoin economy is now too big to ignore and it continues to grow.”
Opening his speech with a quote from Victor Hugo, “When it is the right time to do something, there is no way to stop it from happening!”, Şant Manukyan, International Markets Director at IS Investment, said: “We have experienced quite an interesting period. Particularly when 2007 and 2017 are compared, today we face a completely different environment. People used to talk about Bitcoin like tulip seeds; tulips are short-lived, they don’t last long. However, at this point we’ve seen Bitcoin survive for 10 years. Unlike tulips, it didn’t fade away fast. It has lived for 11 years and will continue to survive.”
